Description
Community Colleges today provide a high-quality career focused education combined with a substantial return of value in terms of time and cost. Allied Health programs at community colleges provide career focused training for students to enter the medical field in support or ancillary positions. Orange Coast College has thirteen medical programs and has one of the largest allied health course offerings among the 115 California Community Colleges.
This research is centered on comprehending the prerequisites for students to initiate a program successfully and delves into the onboarding requirements for clinical sites. The objective of this dissertation is to create an orientation program tailored for both new students and faculty members, drawing insights from the information provided by Orange Coast College’s School of Allied Health. The Module Based Orientation (MBO) at Orange Coast College is crafted to streamline the onboarding of new students and acquaint them with the orientation procedures at clinical sites. Leveraging adult learning theories, the model is structured to deliver information in alignment with educational best practices, catering to the specific needs and preferences of adult learners. The orientation is specifically designed to guide students in meeting the compliance standards outlined by the college and clinical facilities. Within the modules, a thorough examination is provided, covering program admissions, college standards, ethics, behavior, allied health standards, and clinical expectations. This design ensures that students gain a comprehensive understanding and are well-prepared to adhere to the diverse requirements associated with their academic and clinical endeavors. |
