The main purpose of the study is to compare the practicality of using an FDA approved extended wear RPG for overnight retaining lens as compared to the more traditional
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) retainer lens schedule. The goal of ortho-K therapy is to provide usable vision in the absence of a corrective lens. Now that rigid gas permeable (RPG) lenses are available for extended wear it offers a new opportunity for retainer lens wear during sleeping hours. Grant, and others have reported success by combining orthokeratology techniques with over night wear. Traditional orthokeratology techniques recommend a gradual decline in daily wearing time of the lens once the optimum VA is achieved. This approach and actual retaining lens wear time
is individualized to suit patient needs. By using a retainer lens during non waking hours usable uncorrected visual acuity may be maintained without the inconvenience of lens wear during the waking hours.
