Description
Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disorder that targets the neuromuscular junction. Symptoms of weakness and fatigue of voluntary muscles characterize the disorder. These two symptoms are known to be the result of an antibody-mediated attack directed against the nicotinic acetylcho line (ACh) receptors at the neuromuscular junctions. The severity of the symptoms and the progression of the disease are related to the reduction of available ACh receptors (2). To better understand myasthenia gravis, an investigation into the clinical features, pathophysiology, diagnosis and medical management of this complex disease is necessary. To begin, this paper presents a case report of myasthenia gravis.
