Description
The physiological cupping of the optic nerve head varies considerably from person to person. The knowledge of such a variation helps the clinician in the diagnosis of primary open
angle glaucoma (POAG). As t he variation in optic nerve cupping helps the clinician, it is only one of many aspects used in the diagnosis of POAG. This knowledge is especially helpful in
diagnoses involving populations at high risk of developing POAG, in this case the black population.
