Description
The purpose of this study is to draw a comparison between typical subjective refractive technique and a simple objective cycloplegic technique for young children, infants and non-communicative patients. The measured axial length of the cyclopleged eyes and normal refractive findings were the two variables correlated. Previous objective refractive methods with children and infants have usually been limited to dark room non-cycloplegic dynamic retinoscopy. The variability of the accomodative system is usually in question in the examiners mind when the final refractive error is obtained. Patient accomodative variance is under cycloplegic control with the technique used in this study. Also, patient fixation is not a requirement as it is in near point retinoscopy.
