"Are These Sunglasses Really Worth The Money?"

Eye care professionals today face an ever increasing number of questions regarding quality versus price of sunglasses, from their patients. The purpose of this project is to establish the differences, if any, between inexpensive (less than ten dollars) and the higher priced well known brand name glasses found in many dispensaries. Three pairs of inexpensive sunglasses were purchased at local retail stores (costs $2.99 $3.00 $3.49 ). Two pairs of higher priced glasses were obtained through Walman optical (average retail $35.00).
The subjects were first tested in each of the following areas with their habitual prescription, Snellen visual acuity, color vision, stereopsis, and contrast sensitivity. Each test was then
repeated with the subjects wearing one pair of randomly selected sunglasses. This was repeated over again until! each subject was tested with all five pair of glasses. A total of twenty subjects were tested using the following methods.
